Before I became an Onboarding Specialist, I started my career in a very different place — working as an Office Administrator, learning the systems, rhythms, and real challenges of supporting people every day.
At the time, I didn’t know this would lay the groundwork for my HR career. But looking back, it taught me three powerful lessons that continue to shape how I approach human resources today.
1️⃣ HR Begins with Listening
When you’re the first point of contact — the one who answers the phone, handles paperwork, and keeps things running — you learn to listen deeply. You notice people’s frustrations, their confusion, and what’s missing in communication.
That skill now helps me design onboarding experiences that feel personal and thoughtful.
2️⃣ Processes Matter More Than You Think
Good HR isn’t just about people — it’s about processes that support them. Admin work taught me how documentation, systems, and even email templates can impact the employee experience.
Today, I bring that mindset into onboarding — refining checklists, improving instructions, and always asking: how can this be simpler and clearer?
3️⃣ Every Role Has a Ripple Effect
In administration, you often work behind the scenes. But what you do affects everyone else. That’s true in HR too. Whether it’s a welcome email or a background check, it all adds up to how someone feels about your company.
It’s why I treat every onboarding touchpoint with care — because small moments make a big impression.
🔄 Full-Circle Moment
Today, I’m a certified HR professional. I’ve studied people analytics, digital HR, and compensation strategy — but my roots are still in real, day-to-day problem-solving.
No matter how digital or data-driven HR becomes, what I learned as an admin will always ground how I work: be clear, be kind, and build systems that serve people.
